Airbus chief executive to step down in board shake-up

(ShareCast News) - The chief executive of French planemaker Airbus will step down from his position in 2019 as the company announced a major shake-up of its management team.
Tom Enders will not seek another term when the next election takes place the year after next, while chief operating officer Fabrice Bregier will vacate his position in February 2018.

Current CEO of Airbus Helicopters Guillaume Faury will take over as the new president of the firm.

"We are confident we have taken the right decisions to ensure Airbus' long-term stability and future success and we fully support Tom Enders to lead Airbus through this generational handover with our full support," said chairman Denis Ranque.

The changes had been speculated in recent days following a series of scandals amid reports of bribes and corruption at the company.

French president Emmanuel Macron said his government was keeping an eye on the management changes at Airbus.

"For Airbus there are decisions on governance which are for the board to take. We are vigilant because we are shareholders, clients and (providers of) export support," Macron said.
