Barclays customers frustrated by online glitch

(Sharecast News) - Barclays customers were locked out of their accounts for hours on Thursday after technical glitches struck the bank's online and telephone banking services.
The issues began on Thursday morning and the bank has said online services are back up and running but it is working to fix the telephone services as soon as possible, with customers still able to access their accounts via the mobile app, which is still working as normal.

The bank has acknowledged that in-branch services have also disrupted in some cases leaving some of Barclays' 24m customers fearful ahead of the weekend.

Customers logging on to check their balance have been greeted with the message: "5 - Sorry - Barclays Online Banking is currently unavailable."

A number of business customers have complained that they are currently unable to organise tomorrow's payments for staff, while one complainant on twitter claimed the issue had caused him "£4800 in missed profit".

The news has worried customers in the wake of TSB's huge IT meltdown earlier this year, which ultimately resulted in chief executive Paul Pester stepping down following a botched IT switch which saw thousands of customers locked out of their accounts.

However, the extent of Barclays customers' issues remains a far cry from the almost month-long period during which some TSB customers could not access their online accounts.

Barclays' shares were up 0.51% at 174.00p at 1647 BST.
