US homebuilder sentiment steady in March - NAHB

(Sharecast News) - Sentiment among US housebuilders held steady in March, according to data released on Monday.
The National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo housing market index was unchanged from February at 62, missing expectations for a small nudge up to 63.

The component charting sales expectations in the next six months rose three points to 71, while the index gauging current sales conditions was up two points at 68, and the component measuring traffic of prospective buyers fell four points to 44

In terms of regions, the index for the Northeast rose five points to 48, while the one for the South increased three points to 66 and the index for the West edged up two points to 69. The gauge for the Midwest slipped one point to 51 in March.

NAHB chief economist Robert Dietz said: "In a healthy sign for the housing market, more builders are saying that lower price points are selling well, and this was reflected in the government's new home sales report released last week.

"Increased inventory of affordably priced homes - in markets where government policies support such construction - will enable more entry-level buyers to enter the market."
