Mastercard appoints Mark Barnett as its European president

(Sharecast News) - Mastercard promoted Mark Barnett to the role of president of its Europea operations with responsibility for the strategy and operations of the business across 53 countries in the region.
Barnett was previously head of Mastercard's UK, Ireland, the Nordics and Baltics division and on 1 June will succeed Javier Perez, who retires at the end of 2020.

Perez took on the role of president of European operations 15 years ago, having been with Mastercard since 1996.

The announcement was made on Monday with the financial services giant adding that Barnett would report to Gilberto Caldart, the President of its International arm, and that he would join Mastercard's Management Committee, also on 1 June.

Commenting on his appointment, Barnett said: "This is an important time for Mastercard, especially here in Europe and I am delighted to be taking the lead of such a dynamic and diverse region. Mastercard is the only true multi-rail payments technology company in Europe and as such we are uniquely placed to be able to deliver simple and secure ways to pay and get paid across the region.

"I look forward to continuing to foster a culture where we drive new technology and innovation while building our position as partner of choice for all those we serve."
