Curevac Covid-19 vaccine could get regulatory thumbs-up by mid-2021

(Sharecast News) - German biotechnology outfit CureVac has clinched approval to begin human trials of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate, although even in the best of cases a request for regulatory approval is not expected until early 2021.
The first meaningful results may be available in September or October and, "under favourable conditions", it could be approved for use in the middle of 2021, company boss, Franz-Werner Haas said.

According to the country's vaccine regulator, the Paul Ehrlich Institut, should trial results be "very good" then a request for approval was possible early in 2021, Reuters reported.

In the phase one trial, 144 participants from Belgium and Germany will be administered vaccine doses and another 24 will be given a placebo.

If the read-outs from that trial are promising, then a larger second phase trial could kick off in September of October.
