UK plans to bring forward ban on fossil fuel vehicles to 2030

(Sharecast News) - The UK government is expected to bring forward the ban on fossil fuel vehicles from 2040 to 2030 after MPs urged the Prime Minister to do so and thus aid the rollout of electric cars.
MPs last week asked the Prime Minister to move the sales ban in the attempt to reach the government's target of net zero emissions by 2050.

The plans are expected to be announced later this year alongside a series of new clean energy policies.

Kwasi Kwarteng MP, the minister for clean energy, confirmed last week that an energy white paper, which will underpin the government's legally binding target to create a net-zero carbon economy by 2050, would be published this autumn after several delays.

There are already measures in place such as the ultra-low emission zone in London which could be part of the reason why sales of eco-friendly cars overtook diesels for the first time in the UK in the time between April and June this year.

The decision to forward the ban would put the UK in line with Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands regarding the fight against emissions.
