FTSE 100 movers: Rolls-Royce recovers; gold miners fall

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 1.4% at 5,910.83 in afternoon trade on Wednesday.
Engine maker Rolls-Royce was the standout gainer, having fallen sharply earlier in the week amid concerns about the impact of rising Covid-19 cases and further restrictions on the airline industry.
JD Sports Fashion was also in the black following well-received first-quarter results from Nike.
Premier Inn owner Whitbread was up, clawing back some ground after sliding on Tuesday as it announced it was cutting 6,000 jobs after suffering a slump in trading due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Banks were on the front foot, with Barclays, Standard Chartered and NatWest all higher.
On the downside, precious metals miners Fresnillo and Polymetal lost their shine as gold prices fell.
