UK footfall bounces back as non-essential retail reopens - Springboard

(Sharecast News) - Retail footfall bounced back last week as Britons flocked to shopping centres and the High Street in the run up to Christmas as non-essential retail was reopened.
According to Springboard, footfall across all UK retail destinations jumped by 40.3% over the week starting on 29 November in comparison to the prior seven-day stretch, with that in shopping centres 61.1% stronger.

High Street footfall meanwhile picked up by 40%.

Nonetheless, Diane Wehrle, Insights Director at Springboard, noted that the volume of clients in bricks and mortars destinations remained "far below" the year earlier level - 41.3% lower to be more exact.

And yet, for Saturday alone, footfall in UK retail parks was only 1.3% below its 2019 level.

Furthermore, total footfall in in England recovered more strongly than in the rest of the UK, surging by 81%, by 121.3% at shopping centres and by 79.8% on high streets.
