Pfizer to temporarily slow deliveries as key factory is revamped

(Sharecast News) - Pfizer will slow deliveries of its Covid-19 vaccine over the next three to four weeks in order to upgrade a key facility and boost production across the remainder of 2021.
The drug giant said the renovations would allow it to increase output from its Puurs, Belgium plant from mid-February.
"As part of the normal productivity improvements to increase capacity, we must make modifications to the process and facility that will require additional regulatory approvals," a spokeswoman for Pfizer reportedly said.
"Although this will temporarily impact shipments in late January to early February, it will provide a significant increase in doses available for patients in late February and March."
Pfizer was reportedly expecting to catch up on deliveries by the end of March, with Canada's Procurement Minister, Anita Anand, reportedly adding that by the end of September everyone who wished to be inoculated would be able to do so.
According to Germany's health ministry, the installation in Puurs only supplies countries outside the US.
As of 1620 GMT, shares of Pfizer were off by 0.52% to $36.56.
