Huawei seeks court order to access HSBC records in detained CFO case

(Sharecast News) - Huawei is seeking a court order to access HSBC records in a bid to stop its chief financial officer, Meng Wanzhou, from being extradited from Canada to the US.
Huawei presented a petition on Friday to gather proof that Meng Wanzhou, who has been under Canadian custody since her arrest in 2018, did not mislead the lender.
Washington is seeking her extradition on charges of violating US sanctions when a company controlled by Huawei sold telecoms equipment to Iran.
The US claims that Meng did not disclose to HSBC the links between Skycom and Huawei, a firm that was active in Iran and was an alleged shell company for Huawei.
Meng reportedly told HSBC senior executives in a PowerPoint presentation in August 2013 that Skycom was a simple partner and not a subsidiary.
At the high court in London, Huawei will on Friday seek an order under the Bankers Book Evidence Act to access what they regard as relevant information in HSBC's books.
Meng's lawyers claimed the presentation to HSBC was altered to make it look as though she misrepresented the relationship between the companies.
Meng was due to appear in a Vancouver court on 1 March for the last stage of her extradition hearings.
