BT chairman Jan du Plessis to step down

(Sharecast News) - BT Group said on Monday that Jan du Plessis plans to retire as chairman this year once a successor has been appointed.
Du Plessis joined the company as a non-executive director in June 2017 and was appointed chairman in November of the same year. BT said it will now initiate the process to appoint a successor led by the senior independent director.

Du Plessis said the time was right to step down and focus on other interests "after 17 years of demanding roles as chairman of significant FTSE companies".

"BT has made good progress over the last few years. We have a refreshed board and much-strengthened senior management team delivering on our strategy to transform the company," he said.

"We have made big strides in enhancing customer service and have really stepped up to support the country during the pandemic. Above all, our relationship with Ofcom has improved significantly over the last three years and I strongly believe the board's commitment to invest in a full fibre network is in the long-term interests of all BT's stakeholders."
