Iran told to address IAEA's concerns on uranium particles

(Sharecast News) - Iran has been urged to address the International Atomic Energy Agency's concerns on uranium particles found at undeclared, old sites.
The US told the watchdog's board on Thursday that it will watch the process closely.

"Iran has now been given another opportunity by the Director General to offer up the necessary cooperation before this Board next meets," the US statement to the board said according to Reuters.

"The United States, like all Board members, will calibrate our views on the Board's next steps according to whether Iran seizes the opportunity now before it to finally and credibly address the IAEA's concerns," it added.

Britain, France and Germany scrapped the US-backed plan for the UN nuclear watchdog's board to criticise Iran for scaling back cooperation with the agency, diplomats said on Thursday.

The move from the Europeans comes amid concerns about efforts to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. They had also been lobbying for the IAEA board of governors to adopt a resolution this week at a quarterly meeting.

Nevertheless, the Europeans did express their "deep concern" at Iran's failure to explain the particles found at the three old sites, reported Reuters.

As a result of the US's plan to review the undeclared uranium particles, Tehran recently threatened to end an agreement with the IAEA that limits the impact of its latest moves and enables monitoring of its facilities.
