Wizz Air passenger numbers surge in March

(Sharecast News) - Low-cost airline Wizz Air said on Monday that it had carried 2.47m passengers in March, a 416% increase year-on-year.
Wizz Air, which also reported a 23.7 basis point improvement in its load factor to 86.2%, said it had continued to grow its network and improve its customer offering in March, expanding existing operations in Romania and announcing new routes originating from Italy, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates to destinations ranging from Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Montenegro, Israel to Sri Lanka.

The FTSE 250-listed firm stated that it continued to operate with the lowest CO2 emissions per passenger/km amongst all its competitor airlines, with 62.5 grams per passenger/km for the 12 months ended 31 March, 0.4 grams per passenger/km better than the glidepath Wizz Air disclosed at the time of its 2021 full-year results. For the month of March, CO2 emissions in grams per passenger/km were 23.2% lower compared to the same month last year.

Wizz Air added that it had been supporting Ukrainian refugees by offering 100,000 free seats on all continental Europe flights departing from the nation's border countries of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and Romania.
