(Sharecast News) - Healthcare service provider Totally announced the appointment of John McMullan as its group medical director on Wednesday - an executive board position - with effect from 1 January.
The AIM-traded firm said McMullan was currently the joint managing director of Pioneer Health Care, an established provider of specialist NHS secondary care services, which Totally acquired in March.
He had been a key member of the Pioneer Health Care leadership team since he was appointed managing director in 2014, the board said.
The new role would provide leadership across the group for its medical and clinical staff, as well as providing strategic advice to the board on future growth opportunities.
McMullan would also ensure that clinical quality was a priority across the organisation, the company said.
It said McMullan is a senior NHS consultant and neurosurgeon, with a special interest in spinal surgery, paediatric neurosurgery, neuro-oncology and the treatment of neuromuscular disorders.
He was previously head of the neurosurgery department at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, one of the biggest neurosurgery departments in the UK.
McMullan is currently a consultant neurosurgeon at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Sheffield Children's NHS Foundation Trust, and a member of a number of peer review committees in England, including the Paediatric Brain Tumour registry and the Paediatric Head Injury group.
"Delivering the right care, first time, every time is at the core of what we do," said chief executive officer Wendy Lawrence.
"The NHS trusts Totally to deliver services to more than two million patients each year, and this means ensuring that every one of our services is safe and that a culture of excellence underpins everything we do.
"As our organisation grows, so must our focus and the addition of a medical director role at board level reflects the growth we have delivered to date and will ensure that we can continue to maintain quality services as we grow even further."
At 1518 GMT, shares in Totally were down 0.72% at 33.01p.
