Following the trend seen on the top tier index, mining stocks made strong gains, boosted in part by a strong four-month gain in iron ore stocks. They were also helped by yesterday's news that activity in China's services sector in October expanded at its fastest pace in the last year, reinforcing confidence that the world's largest economy is on a stable growth path.
