Centrica appoints Charles Berry as new chairman

(Sharecast News) - Energy and services outfit Centrica has tapped sector veteran Charles Berry as its new chairman, taking over from Rick Haythornthwaite who announced his intention to step down back in May.
Ahead of Haythornthwaite's departure on 20 February, Berry was appointed to the board as chairman designate on Wednesday.
Berry is also chairman of international engineering outfit Weir and has previously held chairman roles at Senior, Drax, EAGA and Thus.
Previously Berry had held executive roles at Scottish Power, where he was responsible for power generation, commodity trading, energy retailing and renewable energy in the UK.
Haythornthwaite said: "Charles's breadth of international energy and engineering knowledge and a long track record of successful leadership of businesses across industrial, minerals, and retail sectors over the last 20 years, stand him in an excellent position to succeed me and lead the Centrica board."
As of 1300 BST, Centrica shares had slipped 0.74% to 148.49p.
