FTSE 100 movers: IAG and Barclays act as a drag

(Sharecast News) - IAG was one of the session's worst performers as Brent crude oil futures continued pushing higher, hitting three-month highs after the US president said at the weekend that trade talks with China last week were "productive".
Barclays shares were also among the weakest on the leaderboard on the heels of a report in the Financial Times that US hedge fund, Tiger Global, had recently fully unwound a 2.5% stake in the lender.

That position had likely gone unnoticed up until now because it was mostly built-up via the use of swaps, but nevertheless meant an investor who had supported Barclays chief Jes Staley's strategy, including building-up the investment bank unit, had now exited.

Nevertheless, according to one of the persons cited by the FT: "the decision to exit Barclays should not be interpreted as a loss of confidence in Mr Staley. The fund had probably seen more attractive investment opportunities elsewhere."

Going the other way, Reckitt Benckiser paced gains after the consumer brands giant flagged continuing momentum ahead for 2019.

That would be on the back of a 10% jump in net revenues for the calendar year to £12.6bn was a 10%, boosted by £3.3bn of sales in the final three months of 2018, which was up 4% on a like-for-like basis versus the average analysts forecast of 3.3%.

RBS was also higher as investors continued to reward the lender for its decision, announced during the previous trading session, to declare a special payout on top of an ordinary dividend.
