Week ahead: Second 'meaningful' vote, US-China trade talks in focus

(Sharecast News) - All eyes will be firmly on what are expected to be multiple key votes on the Prime Minister's Withdrawal proposal, starting from Tuesday, although political analysts appear to be completely divided as to what the result of the entire process will be; namely, an extension of Article 50, some sort of 'soft' Brexit', a second referendum or even new elections.
Indeed, at the weekend, the Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, even appeared to imply that a majority of Britons might no longer support Brexit.
"If you want to stop Brexit you only need to do three things: kill this deal, get an extension, and then have a second referendum. Within three weeks, those people could have two of those three things [...] and quite possibly the third one could be on the way," he reportedly told the BBC.
Quite as important as well will be the news-flow around the ongoing US-China trade talks.
In the States meanwhile, and especially given recent downside surprises in the economic data, investors will be focusing on the release of a raft of economic indicators, including retail sales (Monday), consumer prices (Tuesday), durable goods orders (Wednesday) and consumer confidence (Friday).
Key Chinese economic indicators are also slated for release over the next week, including readings on consumer prices (Saturday), money supply (Sunday) and for fixed asset investment, retail sales and industrial production, all on Thursday.
