Alliance Pharma's 'Xonvea' gets approval in Ireland

(Sharecast News) - Alliance Pharma announced on Wednesday that 'Xonvea' has gained marketing approval in the Republic of Ireland from the country's medicines regulator, the Health Products Regulatory Authority, for the treatment of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy where conservative management has failed.
The AIM-traded firm said approval in Ireland paved the way for its first launch of Xonvea outside the UK, where the product was in-licensed from Duchesnay of Canada in 2015, and launched in October last year.
In Ireland, it had been approved for the same indication - nausea and vomiting of pregnancy where conservative management has failed.
"In Ireland, as in the UK, nausea and vomiting of pregnancy is the most common medical condition in pregnancy, affecting approximately 46,500 women in Ireland each year," the Alliance Pharma board said in its statement.
"Research shows that up to 40% of pregnant women report symptoms of nausea and vomiting sufficiently severe to interfere with daily life with at least one in 100-150 women hospitalised with the condition in Ireland each year."
It said it expected that Xonvea would be launched in Ireland in the fourth quarter of 2019, and would be marketed directly by Alliance's in-country sales and marketing team.
