Week ahead: G-20 leaders' summit, US-China trade in focus

(Sharecast News) - The market spotlight over the coming week will be firmly on the 28-29 June G-20 leaders summit in Osaka, Japan, and the meeting between the US President and his Chinese counterpart on the sidelines of the event.
According to strategists at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch, there were reasons to be sanguine, telling clients that: "Trump prefers to be "Jobs President" not "Tariff President"; steel first industry to receive tariff protection; US Steel factory closure, slump in Philly Fed, rising joblesss claimsin battleground state Pennsylvania suggests G20 trade war escalation unlikely."
Several top US central bank officials are slated to take to the podium, although their speeches might be more insightful once the outcome of the G-20 is known.
Across the Channel, a preliminary reading on Eurozone consumer prices for June at the end of the week may also garner attention, as will the IFO institute's closely-followed business confidence gauge for Germany, on Monday.
A raft of economic data is also set for release in Japan, on Thursday, including reports on unemployment, Tokyo CPI and industrial production.
