Week ahead: US quarterly earnings, UK data in focus

(Sharecast News) - Markets' focus over the coming week will be on the US corporate results season.
According to FactSet, analysts anticipate earnings per shares among US blue chips will fall by 2.8% over the second quarter, following on a 0.3% dip in the first quarter, with Technology and Materials companies expected to do worst.
Among the names due to report earnings are Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Netflix on Tuesday, followed by the likes of American Express and Microsoft on Thursday.
The flow of economic reports is also due to pick up substantially in all geographies over the coming week.
On home turf, data are due out covering monthly employment, consumer prices, retail sales and public sector borrowing starting from Tuesday.
And in China, Monday will bring with it readings on industrial production, fixed asset investment and second quarter gross domestic product growth, which will keep the spotlight firmly on Chinese authorities response to weaker growth.
Multiple first-tier releases are also due out in the States, including on retail sales and industrial production on Tuesday, housing starts on Wednesday and the Philly Fed's regional manufacturing sector index on Thursday.
