888 Holdings defends reappointment of long-serving chairman

(Sharecast News) - 888 Holdings on Friday defended the reappointment of Brian Mattingley as non-executive chairman after 21% of its shareholders voted against his re-election back in May.
The gambling company has held discussions with major shareholders who voted against the re-election and said it understood that some investors were concerned about the length of Mattingley's tenure.

Mattingley joined the board in August 2005 and has since served as chief executive, non-executive director, executive chairman and non-executive chairman.

The FTSE 250-listed company said its decision to retain Mattingley's service reflected his wealth of gambling industry and public company experience, deep knowledge of the business and industry contacts, adding that the board believed his continued service benefited all shareholders.

Meanwhile, 888 added that is still monitoring potential additional non-executive director appointments and will seek to provide a further update on the matter by its next annual general meeting in May next year.

888 Holdings shares were up 0.81% at 161.00p at 1001 GMT.
