Tuesday preview: UK GDP and TUI Group in the spotlight

(Sharecast News) - The market spotlight on Tuesday will fall on a raft of UK activity indicators for December, together with a preliminary reading for the fourth quarter of 2019.
Economists at Barclays Research expected that the former will show services output offsetting flat industrial output a drop in that from construction.
Similarly, GDP is expected to have been flat quarter-on-quarter, with growth in household consumption coming alongside falling inventories and volatile foreign trade.
Across the Channel meanwhile, speeches from European Central Bank boss, Christine Lagarde, and her chief economist, Philip Lane, are scheduled for 1400 GMT and 1700 GMT, respectively.
Central bankers will also be in focus Stateside, with a fully of Fedspeakers on the slated to take to the podium, including Fed chief, Jerome Powell, at 1500 GMT.
Powell is due to deliver his semi-annual monetary policy report to the US House of Representative's Financial Services Committee.
Tuesday will also see Democratic party voters in New Hampshire cast their ballots in the state primaries, with Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg currently the strongest candidates.
TUI Group is among the corporates that are set to update markets on Tuesday.
The international tour group is set to report on first quarter earnings and analysts at ShoreCap anticipate that management will confirm an extra €220.0-270.0m charge linked to the grounding of Boeing's 737 Max being extended into the peak summer season.
Hence, the company was expected to cut its guidance range for its full-year earnings before interest, taxes, and amortisation to €680.0-830.0m, versus €893.0m in 2019.
"We would expect the update to report trading consistent with prior guidance, noting the improved supply-demand balance in the UK market, albeit the range is likely to narrow."
