FTSE 100 movers: Airlines fly lower amid coronavirus fears; Polymetal shines

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 3.5% at 7,145.43 in afternoon trade on Monday amid growing concerns about the coronavirus.
Airlines easyJet and British Airways and Iberia parent IAG flew lower, while travel company TUI was in the red amid concerns about the impact of the outbreak.
Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, said: "TUI, easyJet and International Consolidated Airlines were among the biggest fallers on the London Stock Exchange, perhaps implying that investors are fearful that consumers and business people may lose their appetite to travel.
"We're not that far away from a busy period for the travel sector as a large number of people like to go away at Easter time. Travel companies will be praying that the virus is contained as quickly as possible."
Premier Inn owner Whitbread and InterContinental Hotels also fell sharply, along with cruise operator Carnival.
Miners - which are heavily dependent on Chinese demand - were under the cosh, with Anglo American, Antofagasta and BHP all lower.
Outsourcer Bunzl bucked the trend as it posted a rise in annual profit and revenue and announced two acquisitions.
Education publisher Pearson gained, having fallen on Friday after it warned that profit would decline in 2020.
Polymetal was also on the rise as gold prices rallied to a seven-year high amid a flight to safety.
