BA suspends all flights from Gatwick

(Sharecast News) - British Airways said it was suspending all flights from Gatwick airport from Wednesday as air travel demand slumped due to the coronavirus.
The carrier, owned by International Airlines Group, said it would keep equipment for essential functions at the airport, such as maintenance, towing and cleaning which would enable it to restart operations quickly.
"Due to the considerable restrictions and challenging market environment, like many other airlines, we will temporarily suspend our flying schedule at Gatwick," the airline said in a statement.
"We are contacting affected customers to discuss their options."
The move follows easyJet's decision on Monday to ground its entire fleet to save costs.
EU passenger rules guarantee a full refund for flights due to cancellations within seven days, but airlines have been accused of holding on to customers' cash and hiding information on how to get their money back.
BA has removed an option for passengers to request a refund online. Virgin's website only mentions rebooking a flight for free, plus any difference in fares.
