Intelligent Ultrasound rolls out lung ultrasound simulator at Nightingale Hospital

(Sharecast News) - Ultrasound artificial intelligence software and simulation company Intelligent Ultrasound Group announced on Friday that its 'BodyWorks' point-of-care ultrasound simulator (PoCUS), with its newly released free Covid-19 lung ultrasound module, has been made available in the emergency simulation centre at the NHS Nightingale Hospital at London's ExCel centre.
The AIM-traded firm said that as part of the fight against Covid-19, the BodyWorks training simulator, combined with its staff operating on-site at the hospital, were helping to train clinicians to rapidly acquire and practice lung ultrasound skills.

It explained that lung ultrasound has "major utility" for the management of respiratory-related Covid-19 infection, due to its safety, repeatability, absence of radiation, low cost and point of care use.

The technique was also relatively easy to disinfect, compared to alternative imaging modalities.

As well as the NHS Nightingale, the company said it had also remotely upgraded more than 30 of its BodyWorks PoCUS training simulators with the new training module in hospitals in the UK, the United States, Europe and Asia since the module's launch last week, with "very positive feedback" from clinicians.

"We've had our BodyWorks system upgraded today to include the wonderful new Covid-19 lung ultrasound module, which will come in incredibly handy when upskilling our intensive care unit teams in lung ultrasound," said Hannah Conway, an advanced critical care practitioner at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester.

The company said the BodyWorks Covid-19 module was being provided free of charge for all existing and new BodyWorks PoCUS customers, and was made available to the market last week, to help with the training of healthcare professionals working in the front line of the global pandemic.

At 1455 BST, shares in Intelligent Ultrasound Group were up 24.36% at 12.12p.
