Smith & Nephew hires Merlin's Nesmes as new CFO

(Sharecast News) - Smith & Nephew has hired Anne-Francoise Nesmes as chief financial officer from Merlin Entertainments.

The FTSE 100 medical technology company said Nesmes would join by 3 August when her commitments at Merlin are over. She has been CFO at Merlin since August 2016 and before that was finance chief at Dechra Pharmaceuticals.

Nesmes will replace Graham Baker who will leave the company on 30 April for a CFO job outside the healthcare sector. Her appointment will take the number of women on Smith & Nephew's board to five.

Before joining Dechra, Nesmes worked at GlaxoSmithKline for 16 years. She is a non-executive director of Compass Group, the catering company. Merlin, the owner of Madame Tussauds, was a member of the FTSE 250 before it was taken private in November.

Roland Diggelmann, Smith & Nephew's chief executive, said: "Anne-Francoise is an exceptional finance leader who has demonstrated her effectiveness supporting ambitious strategic, investment and efficiency programmes in both healthcare and other sectors. I am excited that she is joining Smith & Nephew."

Nesmes will be paid a salary of £580,000 a year and will be eligible for bonuses worth 275% of her salary each year. The company will pay her cash in lieu of a pension of 12% of her salary.

Smith & Nephew also announced that Bob White would join the board as a non-executive director. White is executive vice president and president of Minimally Invasive Therapies Group and a member of the executive committee for Medtronic plc.

Robert Quarta, Smith & Nephew's chairman, said: "It is important that we include a non-executive director with a deep knowledge of the global medtech space. Bob ... brings both large company perspective and the experience of working in the US, our largest market, and Asia Pacific, a vital growth opportunity for Smith & Nephew."
