Jack Dorsey stands by fact-check on Trump tweet

(Sharecast News) - Twitter chief executive officer Jack Dorsey said he stands by the company's decision to fact-check two tweets by President Donald Trump despite the White House's intense criticism.
The row comes after Twitter added a link on two of Trump's tweets referring to mail-in ballots that said "Get the facts about the mail-in ballots".
When clicked, the links sent users to a page that said, "Trump falsely claimed that mail-in ballots would lead to 'a Rigged Election.' However, fact-checkers say there is no evidence that mail-in ballots are linked to voter fraud."
"Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!" Trump wrote in a tweet Tuesday as a response.
"This does not make us an 'arbiter of truth,'" Dorsey wrote. "Our intention is to connect the dots of conflicting statements and show the information in dispute so people can judge for themselves. More transparency from us is critical so folks can clearly see the why behind our actions."
The CEO of the platform said through some tweets that he stands by his company's decision.
Trump's tweets "may mislead people into thinking they don't need to register to get a ballot (only registered voters receive ballots)," he said, adding that Twitter would update the link on the tweets "to make this more clear."
The statement from Dorsey comes as the White House is preparing an executive order that would target social media companies for bias in their content moderation strategies.
According to CNBC, in the draft that cites Twitter by name, Trump would direct the Federal Communications Commission to propose and clarify regulations of Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
It would also encourage the Federal Trade Commission to take action against companies engaging in "deceptive" acts of communication.
