Carnival to restart Aida cruises with no foreign stops

(Sharecast News) - Carnival said its German Aida cruise line would restart voyages earlier than expected from August after almost five months of shutdown.
The world's biggest cruise company said three of Aida's ships would start sailing next month with the first leaving Hamburg on 5 August. The early voyages will not stop at foreign ports and will have reduced capacity to allow for physical distancing and routing measures.
The Germany-only trips bring forward the return of Aida's ships to the seas after Carnival said a week ago it had extended the shutdown until the end of August because safe travel was not yet possible in many destinations.
Ships will also have extra health and hygiene measures after cruises became floating breeding grounds for Covid-19 in the early stages of the pandemic. These include temperature checks before check-in, a digital health questionnaire before the cruise and increased cleaning and disinfecting.
"Aida Cruises has worked with several global and national health authorities to develop a comprehensive set of health and hygiene protocols to help facilitate a safe, healthy and phased-in return to cruise vacations," Carnival said. The company said as ports open up it expected to add foreign destinations to Aida cruises.
Carnival shares rose 5.8% to 990.9p at 12:18 BST in London.
