DX joins Covid-19 testing logistics consortium

(Sharecast News) - Logistics provider DX announced on Thursday that its DX Express division has joined a consortium of UK parcel delivery providers, to manage the nationwide collection and delivery of Covid-19 home-testing kits.
The AIM-traded firm said the 'Carrier Consortium' consisted of more than 10,000 vehicles, 200 facilities and over 16,000 employees in total, in a coordinated effort to deliver a controlled operation to transport test kits from pick-up to delivery at testing laboratories.

Organised by the Delivery Group, the operation would operate seven days per week across England.

The company said the results of the testing programme would feed into a study coordinated by Ipsos MORI, in partnership with Imperial College London, for the Department of Health and Social Care, to assist in understanding the prevalence of the coronavirus across England.

"We are proud to be supporting this important collaboration with our fellow delivery operators," said chief executive officer Lloyd Dunn.

"Scaling up testing for Covid-19 is a critical task and the logistical support required is considerable."

Dunn said DX Express was "ideally placed" to help, with its record in medical and pharmaceutical deliveries.

"The response from our people throughout the coronavirus crisis has been outstanding, and this is another example of the DX team stepping up to the plate in a time of national emergency."

At 1337 BST, shares in DX Group were up 6.09% at 17.24p.
