Airtel Africa strikes strategic partnership deal with Standard Chartered

(Sharecast News) - Telecommunications and mobile payments provider Airtel Africa inked a strategic partnership with Standard Chartered Bank on Thursday.
Airtel Africa said both it and Standard Chartered will work together to co-create products aimed at enhancing the accessibility of financial services across Africa.

As a result, the FTSE 250-listed firm's customers will be able to make real-time online deposits and withdrawals from Standard Chartered bank accounts, receive international money transfers directly to their wallets and access savings products.

Airtel stated the partnership was part of its efforts to expand the range and depth of its money offerings across its 19.0m customers.

Chief executive Raghunath Mandava said: "Our relationship with Standard Chartered boosts financial inclusion across the continent, giving millions of people access to valuable banking services.

"This highlights Airtel Africa's commitment to providing affordable, innovative, best-in-class solutions to enhance the daily lives of our customers."

As of 0810 BST, Airtel Africa shares were down 4.17% at 57.50p.
