Covid-19 deaths reach 1m, WHO claims virus still suppressible

(Sharecast News) - The World Health Organization (WHO) said on Tuesday that the number of global deaths from Covid-19 had reached 1m but that the virus was still suppressible.
The global health watchdog said that it was "a very sad milestone", after many victims suffered "a terribly difficult and lonely death" with their families unable to say goodbye.

It is believed that the death toll is in fact higher as the methods of registering the deaths by coronavirus aren't water tight yet.

"So many people have lost so many people and haven't had the chance to say goodbye. Many people who died died alone... It's a terribly difficult and lonely death," WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris told a UN briefing in Geneva.

"The one positive thing about this virus is it is suppressed, it is not the flu", she added.

Most countries are currently being affected by the second wave of the virus with the US being one of the worst affected in the world.

In the UK, the government is once again implementing restrictions on businesses such as bars and restaurants to try to keep the spike in the number of cases low.
