Ryanair traffic slides in November as Covid continues to take its toll

(Sharecast News) - Budget airline Ryanair said on Wednesday that passenger numbers slid in November as it continued to take a hit from the Covid-19 crisis and related travel restrictions.
Passenger numbers fell 82% from November 2019 to 2 million. On a rolling 12-month basis, numbers were down 60% to 61.4m.

Last month, the airline said it swung to a loss in the first half as passenger numbers were dented by the pandemic and government restrictions, and that it expected to post bigger losses in the second half.

In the six months to 30 September, the airline swung to a loss after tax of €197m from a profit of €1.15bn a year ago, with revenue down 78% to €1.18bn. Passenger numbers slumped 80% to 17.1m and the load factor - which gauges how full the planes are - fell to 72% from 96%.

Ryanair's entire fleet was grounded from mid-March to the end of June as EU governments imposed flight or travel bans and widespread lockdowns due to the pandemic.
