FTSE 100 movers: Halma recovers; Tesco takes a hit

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was down 1.6% at 7,042.44 in afternoon trade on Friday.
Supermarket group Tesco was in the red after it revealed a slowdown in first-quarter sales as coronavirus pandemic restrictions were lifted and people started to eat out more.

Russ Mould, investment director at AJ Bell, said: "Tesco's first quarter 2021 figures were never going to live up to last year's comparable period, as the three months to May included the period where the nation went crazy stockpiling food and drink as the pandemic took its grip."

On the upside, precious metals miners Fresnillo and Polymetal shone as the gold price rose.

Safety equipment specialist Halma recovered, having slumped on Thursday after Berenberg said the stock's valuation "remains a hurdle".
