Tuesday preview: China foreign trade data, Vistry Group in focus

(Sharecast News) - All eyes on Tuesday will shift towards the People's Republic of China, where readings are due out on international trade and foreign exchange reserves in August.


For the former, economists at Barclays Research are forecasting a slight acceleration in the year-on-year rate of growth, albeit partly due to positive base effects.

Across the Channel, the spotlight will be on the ZEW institute's economic confidence index for Germany, which analysts anticipate will reveal a large drop for September, from 40.4 in the month before to 30.0.

Also due out are readings for euro area employment and GDP in the second quarter, alongside a report on German industrial production.

No major economic announcements are scheduled in the UK or US.

For Vistry Group's interims, UBS analyst Anastasia Solonitsyna said investors' focus would be on the homebuilder's profitability and any update on fiscal year 2021/22 guidance.

The analyst had penciled-in profit before tax of £339m for the half, versus consensus on £329m, and said that the "upside risk is a faster margin improvement and a faster rollout of Partnerships business."

Topline growth including joint ventures meanwhile was pegged at 93% year-on-year to reach £1.27bn (consensus: £1.26bn).

"We think house price inflation continues to offset pressures in the material supply chain, and weekly reservations remained in the regions of 0.7-0.8x."
