Unite secures pay increase for 35,000 Barclays staff

(Sharecast News) - Barclays has announced a pay rise for 35,000 of its lower-paid UK staff in customer-facing, branch and junior support roles to help with the cost-of-living crisis.
With effect from 1 August, they will receive a £1,200 increase to their annual pensionable salary. Barclays said the pay rise brings forward part of the annual pay review that would normally have come into effect in March next year.

"Barclays will continue to monitor the economic situation globally and consider our approach to pay in each country in the local context," it said.

The Unite union, which represented Barclays staff, welcomed the pay agreement.

Unite national officer Dominic Hook said: "Unite has won this significant financial recognition for our members across Barclays. This is a victory for Unite as the union made sure staff concerns were heard at the highest levels of the bank.

"As all employees face significant cost of living increases Unite has campaigned to ensure that this bank recognised the need to act. Unite welcomes that this announcement will increase pay and not simply a one-off payment."
