US open: Stocks head south following NFP data

(Sharecast News) - Wall Street stocks headed south early on Friday as market participants digested a key jobs report.
As of 1440 BST, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.43% at 32,585.01, while the S&P 500 was 0.60% weaker at 4,127.03 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 0.91% softer at 12,605.31.
The Dow opened 141.81 points lower on Friday, extending losses recorded in the previous session amid a flurry of corporate earnings.
Friday's primary focus will be last month's nonfarm payrolls report, which revealed the US economy created far more jobs than expected last month. According to the Department of Labor, non-farm payrolls increased by 528,000 in July, while the unemployment rate was unrevised at 3.6%. Economists expected the US to have added 250,000 jobs in July, while the unemployment rate was predicted to have held steady.
Still to come on the macro front, consumer credit change numbers for June will follow at 2000 BST.
In the corporate space, Goodyear Tire & Rubber posted earnings that beat on both the top and bottom lines, with second-quarter profits hitting $166.0m.
Elsewhere, Amazon said on Friday that it has agreed to buy iRobot in a $1.7bn cash deal. Under the terms of the deal, Amazon will pay $61 per share for the company, which makes the Roomba robot vacuum.
