Great Western Mining begins new surveys in Mineral County

(Sharecast News) - Great Western Mining announced the start of induced polarisation (IP) and resistivity surveys at its West Huntoon and M5 claims in Nevada's Mineral County on Thursday.
The AIM-traded firm said that after successful field exploration last year, IP and resistivity surveys were now underway at the West Huntoon copper porphyry prospect and the M5 gold-silver-copper prospect.

It said the surveys aimed to provide crucial subsurface information for drill targeting at both prospects, and were expected to conclude by the end of April.

Great Western said it had engaged Zonge International to conduct the surveys across the exploration projects in the Marietta area.

The Zonge survey team had started work at the West Huntoon claims, conducting IP profiles across the copper porphyry mineralisation.

On completion, the team would transition to the M5 gold-silver-copper prospect in the Jack Springs (JS) claim group, with the entire survey operation scheduled for completion by the end of April.

The board said the surveys were expected to identify chargeability and resistivity anomalies indicative of zones of disseminated sulphide mineralisation and silicification.

It said the results would enhance the geological model and facilitate the planning of drill targets at both prospects.

At West Huntoon, geological work in 2023 revealed the presence of a copper porphyry system, characterised by a significant copper in soils anomaly, copper oxide showings at outcrop, and a mineralised granite intrusion.

The objective of the survey was to pinpoint optimal drill targets within this area and explore further potential under tertiary volcanics.

Great Western said the M5 prospect, situated in the southeastern part of the JS claim group, was associated with a mafic intrusion in limestones and rhyolites.

Soil sampling in 2023 indicated elevated gold and copper values under tertiary cover.

The surveys would focus on testing the main part of the soils anomaly over the M5 ridge line and identifying additional drill targets under tertiary cover to the northeast.

"These surveys mark the start of our 2024 work season in Nevada, with an initial focus on the highly prospective copper porphyry at West Huntoon which was established last year," said chairman Brian Hall.

"We have a variety of interesting exploration targets on our claims but are particularly excited about the West Huntoon prospect.

"We are looking forward to a busy work season and will report to shareholders on a timely basis."

At 1307 BST, shares in Great Western Mining Corporation were up 0.22% at 0.05p.
