Tuesday preview: German and US confidence figures on tap

(Sharecast News) - With no blue-chip companies scheduled to report earnings, the focus of Tuesday's session is likely to be on economy data overseas, with closely watched sentiment indicators due out in Germany and the US.
Up first will be the important IFO Business Climate index in Germany, due out at 0900 BST.
The index, which follows in the footsteps of some dismal economic data from Germany on Monday, is expected to dip to 86.0 in September, down from 86.6 in August and the lowest level since February. Both the current assessment and expectations sub-indices are forecast to show declines over the month.
On Monday, figures from S&P Global and HCOB showed that the German business activity contracted for the third straight month in September to a seven-month low, with the manufacturing weakening to its lowest in more than a year.
"Growth in Q3 for Europe's largest economy is now likely to be worse than the -0.1% decline in GDP recorded for Q2," said Kathleen Brooks, research director at XTB, following the data.
Over in the US, the main event on Tuesday will be the US Consumer Confidence index from the Conference Board, due out at 1500 BST, which is tipped to rise to 103.8 in September, from 103.3 the month before.
