Week ahead: US government shutdown, Fed, consumer confidence in focus

(Sharecast News) - Investor focus in financial markets over the coming week will continue to be on the outlook for an end to the US federal government shutdown.
Among other considerations, the timing of the release of the most recent non-farm payrolls and consumer price data in the States will hinge on it.
Against that backdrop, the release of the minutes of the Federal Reserve's last policy meeting may help to shed some light on rate-setters' thinking.
Also scheduled for across the week is a flurry of Fed speakers.
A speech on Thursday by Fed chairman Jerome Powell may also help to elucidate investors.
So too the preliminary results of the University of Michigan's consumer confidence survey for September.
An auction of 30-year US Treasuries on Thursday will also be closely watched.
In the UK, Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey will speak on Monday, followed by his number two Huw Pill on Wednesday.
UK home price surveys are due out on Tuesday and Thursday.
ECB president Christine Lagarde will also speak on Monday.
