German factory orders fall for fourth straight month

(Sharecast News) - Factory orders across Germany unexpectedly declined for the fourth straight month in August, according to data out on Tuesday from the Federal Statistics Office, Destatis.
New manufacturing orders fell by 0.8% over the month after seasonal and calendar adjustments, following a revised 2.7% decrease in July, Destatis reported.

A 6.4% drop in automotive orders was largely to blame for August's decline, while computer, electronic and optical products orders slumped 11.5% and pharmaceutical orders dropped 13.5%.

On the upside, orders of fabricated metal products (excluding machinery and equipment) jumped 15.4%, while transport equipment orders surged 17.1% and electrical equipment orders rose 7.2%.

Excluding large-scale orders, factory orders fell 3.3% over the month of August.
