Greatland makes strong start to 2026 drilling

(Sharecast News) - Greatland Resources said on Wednesday that it made a strong start to the 2026 financial year, exceeding its first-quarter drilling targets at the Telfer gold-copper project as part of a record 240,000-metre exploration and resource development campaign.
The AIM-traded company said it completed 53,543 metres of drilling from 711 holes across the West Dome Open Pit, West Dome Underground and Main Dome Underground targets during the September quarter.

A third reverse circulation rig was mobilised during the period, with a fifth underground diamond rig due to start in October, keeping the programme on track to meet its full-year target.

At the West Dome Open Pit, Greatland drilled 25,286 metres of resource growth holes and 16,010 metres of infill drilling to upgrade confidence in extensions to stages two and seven.

The company said stage seven drilling was ahead of schedule and that work would pivot to stage two for the rest of the year.

Drilling at the West Dome Underground totalled 4,862 metres across nine holes as part of the second phase of the campaign, with two rigs allocated for the rest of the 2026 financial year.

A maiden mineral resource estimate for the area was targeted for the March quarter.

At the Main Dome Underground, 7,386 metres were drilled across 67 holes, extending the Eastern Stockwork Corridor and Kylo zones.

The firm said the results had been delivered to the operations team, with drilling continuing across the ESC South and Tarkin targets.

"The September quarter was a great start to our record 240,000 metre annual drilling program at Telfer, with the results to date further supporting the potential for multi-year Telfer life of mine extension from both open pit and underground opportunities," said managing director Shaun Day.

"The new high-grade zone identified at the West Dome Underground is particularly exciting.

"The project presents the possibility of an entirely new high-grade underground mining centre beneath the currently active West Dome Open Pit."

Day added that access to the new zone could be achieved through existing Main Dome underground infrastructure, while regional exploration continued to show promise at satellite deposits within trucking distance of the Telfer mill.

Drilling during the quarter also advanced several prospects in the Paterson region, including copper mineralisation at Paterson South and new geophysical targets at the Atlantis and Teague prospects.

At Ernest Giles, early testing of anomalies returned encouraging pathfinder mineralisation, with diamond drilling still under way.

Greatland said it remained well positioned to meet its 2026 drilling targets, and aimed to deliver a significant Telfer resource update in the March quarter.

At 1054 BST, shares in Greatland Resources were up 0.37% at 373.89p.
