China manufacturing PMI falls to six-month low

(Sharecast News) - China's manufacturing downturn continued for the seventh straight month in October, as export orders shrank on the back of the Beijing's ongoing trade war with Washington.
Official data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that the manufacturing purchasing managers' index declined to 49.0 from 49.8 in September.

This was below the 49.6 consensus forecast and the steepest contraction - marked by any figure below the neutral 50.0 mark - since April.

Manufacturing output fell for the first time in six months, with the sub-index slipping to 49.7 from 51.9, with the eight-day Golden Week national holiday partly to blame.

Meanwhile, the new orders measure declined to 48.8 from 49.7 with overseas orders in particular dropping to 45.9 from 47.8. Elsewhere, the contraction in employment levels accelerated, while delivery times widened.

In contrast, China's services sector pushed marginally into expansion territory in October, after breaking even in September, the National Bureau of Statistics also reported on Friday.

The non-manufacturing PMI edged up to 50.1 from 50.0, coming in slightly ahead of analysts' expectations for no change.
