To give long-term capital growth by investing mainly in equities but also in fixed interest securities. The portfolio will invest in both UK and overseas markets. Investments are held in funds within the Lloyds Banking Group.
There has been some significant volatility among UK and overseas equities. Markets in the major countries have experienced one of the most turbulent periods in recent memory and share prices suffered big losses in May and June. Global government bond prices have generally benefited over the past six months as nervous investors switched from volatile equity markets. However, prices have fallen recently as rising commodity prices have fuelled investor concerns over inflation. The problems in the US financial sector have continued to grow, as more investment banks reported subprime mortgage-related writedowns (reductions in the recorded values of these assets).
