The Fund's objective is to outperform the FTSE All-Share by 4% p.a. over rolling three year periods.
Q1 2004 was a good quarter for the fund. Positive contributors included Cairn Energy,Man Group and Xstrata. We have cut our holding in GlaxoSmithKline.
We remain overweight in sectors such as media, engineering, telecoms and specialist financials, where we see firms with a genuine competitive advantage. A strong theme in the portfolio is exposure to companies which we see making a successful transition from initial recovery (resulting from costcutting) to sustainable earnings growth.
