September witnessed unprecedented events in financial markets. These included the rescue of several leading banks and insurance companies in the US, UK and Europe. There have also been growing concerns over the slowdown in western economies and, with an easing of inflationary pressures, this has increased the scope for interest rate cuts.Amid mounting concerns over the lack of liquidity in the financial system, UK equities fell sharply. However, UK government bonds benefited from their safe haven status.We modestly increased the fund's exposure to high yield corporate bonds as yields look particularly attractive at current levels. We also added to UK and overseas equities at the lower market levels.
