LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Medical devices company RUA Life Sciences announced the first surgical implant of an 'Elast-Eon' sealed vascular graft on Thursday, as part of its prototype evaluation prior to design freeze.
The AIM-traded firm - formerly known as AorTech International - said the implant procedure went well, with the graft performance meeting the primary targets of suture line performance and blood sealing.
Following initial findings, alterations to the selvedge line had now been incorporated into grafts for the second phase of the study, with the ongoing intention of examining the healing of the graft compared to a control as a secondary target.
RUA said it was intended to start the second phase as soon as possible, with further updates to be provided after examination of the explanted grafts.
"First animal implant is always a major milestone in the development of new medical devices and we are delighted to have successfully sealed a textile graft with Elast-Eon," said chairman Bill Brown.
"This brings us another step closer to reaching design freeze and moving forward to regulatory testing."
At 1214 BST, shares in RUA Life Sciences were down 4.24% at 122.1p.
