LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - eRetail giant Amazon was reportedly preparing to cut as many as 30,000 corporate jobs this week in what would mark the largest round of layoffs in the company's history, according to multiple media reports.
Amazon was expected to begin notifying affected employees via email on Tuesday, with the cuts spanning nearly all areas of the business. According to Reuters, which first reported the news, said the layoffs would impact Amazon's corporate workforce, which stood at around 350,000 as of the end of the second quarter.

The moves form part of a broader cost-cutting drive under chief executive Andy Jassy, who has sought to streamline operations and reduce management layers. He previously warned that Amazon's headcount could shrink further as it adopts generative AI, shifting roles away from legacy functions.

Amazon is the second-largest private employer in the US, with a global headcount of 1.54m.

As of 1010 GMT, Amazon shares were up 0.19% in pre-market trading at $227.41 each.
