LONDON (ShareCast) - Safety and security product supplier Westminster Group said on Monday passenger numbers in Sierra Leone are rising thanks to an improvement in the Ebola situation.
The company said its new passenger ferry 'Sierra Queen' is due to arrive in the country this month, which will provide a ferry transit service between Freetown International Airport and the capital, Freetown.
Chief executive Peter Fowler said: "The arrival of our vessel later this month and commencement of operations is excellent timing given the significant improvements we are seeing with the Ebola situation and improving airport passenger numbers."
The group added that the easing of the Ebola outbreak in the country has had a positive impact on the financial performance of its airport operations during the first quarter of the year.
The improvements are expected to help the company turnaround the impact of the crisis during the second half of 2014.
During the last week of March, Sierra Leone saw 25 new cases of Ebola, compared to 300 cases a week in the height of the outbreak, the company said.
Furthermore, four districts have been declared Ebola free after 42 days with no reported cases.
Shares in Westminster Group were up 1.67% to 26.55 on Monday at 12:12.
