LONDON (ShareCast) - (Sharecast News) - Safety and heat management technology company Zenova Group announced on Monday that its 'Zenova FP' fire-resistant paint has been approved for use by the London Borough of Enfield, with its first use to be in a 14-story residential tower block.
The AIM-traded firm said that under local authority regulations, Zenova FP needed to be 'specified' for use as a fire protection product before contractors could use it in council-owned buildings.
Following a review of Zenova FP's independent test data, Enfield council found that Zenova FP satisfied all necessary building regulation classifications for fire-resistant paint, leading to its use being approved by the borough's fire officer.
Zenova FP becoming specified as a fire-resistant paint by Enfield followed its inclusion by Pelling, a multi-disciplinary design, property, and construction consultancy, in the specification for projects it was undertaking with the borough's council, Zenova explained.
The first project which would benefit from Zenova FP would be the upgrade of fire safety at the 14-level Dover House residential block - one of a number of projects Pelling was managing on behalf of the council.
"Addressing fire safety in high rise and multi residency accommodation is of critical importance, as was recently highlighted by the London Fire Brigade when it revealed that there are more than 1,000 buildings throughout London which posed a serious fire safety risk to residents," said Zenova chief executive officer Tony Crawley.
"We are, therefore, delighted that Pelling has incorporated Zenova FP into its projects, which include improving fire safety for residents of Dover House, and that the London Borough of Enfield has specified the use of Zenova FP as a fire prevention product.
"With Pelling LLP consulting for multiple London boroughs, we believe Zenova FP is well positioned to help address fire safety issues across the wider London area and beyond."
Crawley said that in Zenova FP, the company had a fire-resistant paint which conformed to the BS EN 13501-1 standard now adopted by building regulators, and was proven to prevent ignition and the spread of fire.
"Zenova FP is rapidly becoming established and recognised as the leading fire protection paint product in the market and, with the London Borough of Enfield specifying it for use in the buildings it owns, we believe we can play an important role in improving the fire safety of multi-residency buildings throughout the UK."
At 1018 GMT, shares in Zenova Group were up 6.84% at 17.9p.
